For once, headlines about Rahm Emanuel do not involve his use of profanity. Rahm Emanuel is leaving the White House behind. Rahm wants a position involving real power, and is running for Mayor of Chicago. The incumbent mayor, Richard Daley, is retiring. The chance was brought up the second Daley announced it, as Rahm is recognized to want the spot.
Rahm gathered and was gone
Speculation of Rahm Emanuel leaving his post for the upcoming Chicago mayor election has been rampant for weeks. It isn’t official that he is running yet. Washington D.C. has put out reports implying that he can be running. The White House should be giving an official announcement fairly soon on this, states the Washington Post. President Obama will address the issue in a later press conference. Robert Gibbs is the White House Press Secretary. He announced that personnel changes have caused the White house to need to hold a press conference soon.
Most are calling it a Daley move
This year surprising news came as Chicago Mayor Richard Daley decided not to run again. He does not want to serve anymore after this term. He just really wants to live retired live. The New York Times reported on Daley. It said that Daley really wants to move on to other things in his life. Everyone thinks his retirement could be the end of a dynasty. It will be the end of the Chicago dynasty that is expected. His father, also named Richard Daley, was also a long time Democratic mayor of Chicago. Daley’s father was in his post until he passed away meaning he served from 1995 to 1976. The younger Mayor Daley was elected in 1989, and has been the mayor ever since. Except for 11 years, within the last 55 years Daley’s have been charge of Chicago as mayor.
Rahm wishing to obtain the position
Emanuel has desired the position for a when, and has made it clear. Chicago is a Democrat stronghold, and for the firebrand Emanuel, it may be a good fit.
